BENSALEM, PA: One of the most gifted and influential artists of a new generation of rock guitarists, Herman Li of DragonForce, will do a rare guitar clinic presentation on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 7PM at Sam Ash Music in Cerritos, CA. This is any shredhead’s dream come true. “The audience can ask just about any question they want,” explains Li. “From guitar playing to recording, production, the business —anything you can think of.”

Of course, the audience will get what it wants most: to witness Li’s impressive chops, first-hand, as he gives his Ibanez “E-GEN” Herman Li signature model a good workout. Background Info
Herman Li is the guitarist, songwriter and producer of the Grammy-nominated metal act DragonForce. Having recently released their fourth album, Ultra Beatdown, DragonForce is currently bouncing around the globe on a World Headline Tour.

Inhuman Rampage, the band’s international breakthrough album, featured the U.S. & Canadian Gold Single “Through the Fire and Flames,” which is also a hit in the video game Guitar Hero III. However, “Ultra Beatdown” is the album that has taken DragonForce to new heights, crashing into the Top 20 national album charts in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Taiwan, Singapore and the Top 10 in Japan.

In the last few years, Herman has established himself as one of the most recognized and influential guitarists of the new generation. Accolades starting pouring in starting with the 2005 “Best Shredder” award at the annual Metal Hammer Golden Gods. Herman also won four categories in Guitar World’s 2007 Readers Poll for “Best New Talent” (winning by 70%), “Best Metal,” “Best Riff” and “Best Shredders.” He also won “Best Guitar Solo” for “Through the Fire and Flames” in Total Guitar’s readers’ poll in 2007, as well as numerous other polls in printed and online press around the world. Outside of DragonForce, Herman has been invited to perform with guitar legends such as Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Paul Gilbert, just to name a few.

Between intensive world tours with DragonForce, Herman has found time to write a monthly guitar column in UK’s Total Guitar magazine as well as becoming involved in guitar clinics around the world. Always continuing to evolve as a guitar player, Herman likes to understand his instrument as much as possible. He is heavily involved in electric guitar development, working on new ideas to improve the instrument as much as possible. After three years of hard work, and dedication, the result is the Ibanez E-Gen guitar, Herman’s signature model.

BENSALEM, PA: In 2009, all Ibanez Prestige guitars will once more be made exclusively in Japan. Commented Mac Muranaka of Ibanez, “The consistent precision and artistry of our Ibanez luthiers is unmatched, and artists and dealers with a pro clientele have clamored for more Japanese models. In response, all 2009 Prestige models will be made in Japan.”

In addition the company has expanded its Prestige offerings. “The RG3550MZ is a great example of how Ibanez has responded to player and dealer demand with new models. Not only does the RG3550MZ feature our new 5pc titanium-reinforced Super Wizard neck with the original 1987 RG super thin specs,” continued Muranaka, “it’s our first RG Prestige to feature a maple fretboard. SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (June 16, 2009) – Hot on the heels of their latest critically acclaimed album, The Eternal, Sonic Youth has teamed-up with Fender to create two of the most highly anticipated guitars in recent memory—the Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo signature Jazzmaster guitars, which will be available beginning July 1.

Moore and Ranaldo, canonized as two of “The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” by Rolling Stone magazine in 2003, make up two-fifths of one of the most respected and influential bands in recent memory. Moore and Ranaldo have been playing Fender instruments for the lion’s share of their careers, to the point where the simple image of a Jazzmaster guitar creates an instant free-associative connection with the band. In celebration of 2008’s 50th Anniversary of the Jazzmaster, Fender had been connecting and talking to all of the icons of the instrument, and a dialogue struck up with Lee and Thurston that led to the design and creation of Fender’s latest signature model additions.

“When Fender came to us with an offer to make signature models of our Jazzmaster guitars we jumped at the chance,” Moore and Ranaldo said. “These are the guitars that have defined the sound of Sonic Youth for more than 20 years. Although we love all guitars, Jazzmasters are the ones we’ve modified and perfected for our uses over the years. With massive input from our great road crew, we’ve come up with a Thurston Jazzmaster and Lee ‘Jazzblaster’ that fully reflect the current state of the guitars we play in 2009. In fact, we couldn’t wait to get our hands on these axes-the prototypes of our Fender models have already been thrust into action during the recording of our latest album, The Eternal, and have already begun to acquire the scrapes and scars of live performance. These guitars rock Sonic style!”

Moore and Ranaldo have always modified their Jazzmaster guitars-removing all extraneous controls-simplifying and stripping them back to their essence, leaving just a three-way switch and volume knob. In many ways, these two instruments are similar, yet in almost every major way (pickups, bridges, frets) they are totally different. Both guitars have alder bodies, “C”-shape maple necks with rosewood fingerboards, American Vintage Jazzmaster tremolos and Black anodized aluminum pickguards. Moore’s Jazzmaster features Seymour Duncan® Antiquity II for Jazzmaster pickups, an Adjusto-Matic™ bridge and 21 jumbo frets, and is available in Forest Green Transparent satin nitrocellulose lacquer finish with satin black painted headstock. Ranaldo’s guitar features revoiced Wide Range humbucking pickups, Mustang®-style bridge and 21 vintage frets, and is available in Sapphire Blue Transparent satin nitrocellulose lacquer finish with satin black painted headstock.

Each Sonic Youth Jazzmaster guitar comes with a custom sticker sheet and a full-color 24-page indie rock ‘zine containing photos, set lists, tuning charts, illustrations, tech info and extensive interviews. Designed and laid out largely by Ranaldo himself, this is the definitive insider’s guide to all things Jazzmaster in the world of Sonic Youth.

Sonic Youth came together in 1981 and quickly became a fixture in New York City’s No Wave art and music scene. Over the years, they have released several monumental albums, including Sonic Youth (1982), Daydream Nation (1988), Goo (1990), Dirty (1992) and Murray Street (2002), and have influenced legions of bands all over the world. Known as much for their hardcore ethos and DIY work ethic as their signature lo-fi noise explorations and radical playing styles and techniques, they have been able to achieve recognition and success, all while staying true to their original values and vision.

From his early work with Ozzy Osbourne, to his seminal playing with Black Label Society, to his distinctive solo outings, Zakk Wylde has distinguished himself as one of the most fiery and furious lead players in all of rock. Now in cooperation with this 5-time “Most Valuable Metal Guitarist”, Epiphone Guitars of Nashville, TN announces the release of one of the most scorching and vicious guitars ever: the new Zakk Wylde ZV Custom!. Originally conceived back in 1998, this new “ZV” guitar brings all the raw performance and in-your-face presence that exemplifies Zakk Wylde.

The new Zakk Wylde ZV combines two of the most distinguishable guitar shapes into one. With a it’s double-cutaway “SG” top-half allowing for complete fingerboard access and it’s radical “Flying-V” bottom-half for extreme attitude, the ZV has an aggressive look like no other. As with Zakk’s signature Les Pauls, the body is carved from solid Mahogany and fitted with a glued-in hard Maple neck. The combination provides for deep, rich tone with added brightness and sustain that only comes with a set-neck guitar.

To compliment these tone woods and provide the kind of high-output necessary for Zakk’s style, The ZV is equipped with a set of EMG-HZ humbuckers including a HZ-4 pickup in the bridge position and a HZ-4A pickup in the neck position. Controlling the two pickups are a Bridge Pickup Volume, a Neck Pickup Volume and a Master Tone with 3-way pickup selector. This combination allows for almost infinite tonal variations. Adding to the sustain of the instrument, the ZV uses Epiphone’s new patent-applied-for LockTone™ tune-o-matic that “locks” the bridge on the posts and makes string changes a breeze while a string-thru body design ensures ultimate string to body vibrations.

Zakk has always preferred a natural, satin-finish neck and the ZV is no exception. With it’s SlimTaper™ neck profile, it’s as smooth and as fast as Zakk himself. Both the neck and the Grover™ equipped, six-on-a-side headstock are bound to create a smooth and finished appearance while “LP custom” mother-of-pearl inlays adorn the headstock and the 12″ radius Rosewood fingerboard. Epiphone’s new StrapLocks are standard equipment making sure that this beast stays on it’s leash – even under the most extreme stage situations. To add the final touch to this one-of-a-kind axe, a custom-designed, fitted hard case with ZV-inspired artwork and metal chain handle round out the package.

CORONA, Calif. (Dec. 8, 2008) — Fender University announces the highly-anticipated spring session of the program is set to take place March 4 – 8, 2009 in Corona, Calif. Fender University is an exclusive music education program for guitar enthusiasts worldwide. The program offers exclusive, behind-the-scenes access to Fender’s manufacturing headquarters and world-renowned Fender Custom Shop, in addition to a series of music workshops, hands-on educational experiences, performance opportunities and special guest appearances.

Enrollment is limited to 25 guitar and bass scholars worldwide, and is open to players of all skill levels and musical styles. Additionally, it offers an exciting and unique opportunity to share in the legacy of Fender® through a hands-on, direct experience with Fender products and people.

“We’re opening our doors to guitar and bass enthusiasts worldwide, and asking them to become part of what Fender is all about,” said Richard McDonald, honorary dean of Fender University and senior vice president of global marketing for Fender. “Whether your passion is playing, building, listening or simply learning more about guitars – there’s no better place on earth to absorb all things ‘Fender’ than at Fender University.”

This unique program is an immersion in the SPIRIT OF ROCK-N-ROLL®. Honorees to be inducted on August 7 during third-annual Fender Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Fender Musical Instruments Corp. (FMIC) is proud to announce the Fender Hall of Fame class of 2009, which includes legendary Motown bassist James Jamerson and Japanese entrepreneur Masamitsu “Mike” Yamano. The 2009 class will be formally inducted during the Fender Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on August 7, 2009 held at the Tempe Center of the Arts in Tempe, Ariz.

The creation of The Fender Hall of Fame in 2007 marked the beginning of an annual celebration of artists, innovators, leaders, and historically significant contributors to the Fender legacy. Fender is committed to commemorating and keeping these individuals’ memories alive to serve as inspiration for music-lovers throughout the world.

“FMIC is delighted to celebrate our third-annual Fender Hall of Fame event honoring two incredible contributors to music history,” said Bill Mendello, chief executive officer and chairman of the board for FMIC. “These two men comprising the class of 2009 represent what Fender is all about—passion and innovation both musically and professionally. It is a privilege to officially inaugurate these men into the Fender Hall of Fame.”

The event will take place from 4 – 5 p.m. at the Tempe Center for the Arts, located at 700 W. Rio Salado Parkway, in Tempe, Ariz. A video presentation will first be featured detailing each individual’s lifetime achievements and contributions to FMIC. Company representatives and members of the nomination committee will then induct the class of 2009 into the Fender Hall of Fame. In addition, throughout the precession, a band comprised of current Fender employees will provide musical entertainment.

ABOUT THE INDUCTEES:
Renowned Motown recording artist James Jamerson has been referred to as the father of modern bass guitar, making a revolutionary contribution to multiple musical genres. Playing his legendary 1962 Three-Color Sunburst Fender Precision Bass, known as “The Funk Machine,” Jamerson made his historical mark in the 1960s and ‘70s. From his days with the Motown studio band “The Funk Brothers,” to recording numerous movie scores and TV themes, Jamerson exhibited an assortment of talent that many musicians only dream of. James’ distinguished talent is demonstrated through his extensive body of work with artists such as Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, and Marvin Gaye. With a large repertoire of number one hits and performances, Jamerson popularized the role of bass guitar through his often improvised musical genius. James Jamerson’s lifetime achievement can only be described as unprecedented, and his loyalty to his Fender bass – iconic.

Attributed to the resurrection of the Fender brand, Masamitsu “Mike” Yamano is considered a hero for his unwavering support of FMIC. After joining his family’s business in 1960, Yamano witnessed the foundation of Fender’s relationship with Yamano Music Co. Ltd. in Japan. More than a decade later, Yamano continued his company’s commitment to strengthening Fender’s global presence as the third president of Yamano Music. It was in 1985 however, that Yamano made an unforgettable impact on FMIC. At a time when Bill Schultz and a small group of investors had recently acquired the ailing brand from CBS, Yamano stepped-in and provided a much-needed helping hand. It is because of his support that the Fender legacy was able to uphold and continue into the future. Yamano’s relationship with Fender extends from the era of Leo Fender to that of Bill Schultz, demonstrating his long-term commitment to the brand. FMIC would not be what it is today without Yamano’s investment and belief in the quality of Fender.
